The book of Isaiah (41: 9) says "I brought you from the ends of the earth and called you from its farthest corners. I said, “You are My servant.” When I came into the Wallace community in July 2015, I didn't know what to expect. When I pulled into the Wallace town I was greeted and received by towering signs written “Home of the Wild Cats”. These signs are everywhere including at the School. I wondered the meaning of the term “Home of the Wild Cats”. I am a native of Zimbabwe, Africa. In the country of Zimbabwe, I belong to one of the Shona sub-tribes in which families are identified by their totems. Google defines a totem as “a natural object or animal that is believed by a particular society to have spiritual significance and that is adopted by it as an emblem”. My family is of the Lion / Shumba totem. Back home in Zimbabwe I am always addressed by my totem. I am a member of the wild carts or lion family. The Wallace Community identifies itself as the “wild cats” or lion meaning Shumba in my native language. The coincidence is interesting. God sometimes works in ways we sometimes don’t understand. Mary Hasenauer, is a great artist who happens to be a member of the Methodist Church. One day she invited me to her house for me to see her pieces of art. She is one of most gifted artists in our community and the State of Nebraska. She is talented and has all the patience one needs for coming up with such high quality of artistry in her collection. I said “Mary would you make me a portrait of a lion lying down in the woods” I gave her a sample picture of the lion. This was last year, and I had almost forgotten about it when last Sunday she invited my family for dinner. After the meal Mary said to me “Charles I must get this lion out of my house”. She presented the portrait to my family. A piece that could have sold for several hundreds of dollars, she gave us for free. The lion/wild cat / Shumba is now on the wall in our living room. I have plans to bring the lion to Church in future for all to see. Please help me thank Mary for this gift. The lions of Zimbabwe have found their kith and kin (the wild cats) in Wallace, Nebraska. The book of Isaiah (41: 10) is correct: So, do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand”. I shall always cherish the love and generosity we are receiving from the Wallace community. Amen.

This Sunday we were blessed by Bonnie Erickson,(a resident of Centennial Park, North Platte), when she recited a poem titled "Speak the Truth" (Ephesians 4:25-5-2). It was a well done poem that theologically reminded us of those issues that people in small towns like Wallace and Maywood experience. Thank you Bonnie for partnering Pastor Charles in preaching last Sunday's sermon.
